About Me

Gemma Cooper-Novack is a literacy education scholar in her third year of doctoral studies at Syracuse University. Her focus is writing—the development of writer identity in teenagers and young adults; the relationship between writing (particularly creative writing) curricula and justice for marginalized students; affect theory and writing processes; and the class-based inequalities inherent to the teaching and practice of drafting. She was a writing coach and a theater/playwriting educator in her previous lives, and continues to work as a practicing writer in fields other than academia. Her poetry collection We Might As Well Be Underwater was published in 2017.
